For on-premises deployments, Kapish Search & AI has a Windows service that is responsible for indexing Content Manager data into the Microsoft 365 search index. This service has a dependency on the .NET 10.
For Content Manager Cloud deployments, where you have selected Search & AI as part of your plan, the Search & AI indexing service will be deployed as part of your CMC environment to index your Content Manager data into the Microsoft 365 search index.
From there the data is available to both Copilot and M365 search with appropriate security controls applied.
Both on-premises and CMC deployments require an Entra ID App Registration with appropriate privileges to populate search index.
